Curriculum at KNOSK

Action Learning Vs Rote Model

How much can a teacher do with a 40minutes period? Most periods are spent copying notes and little time for explanations. At the KNOSK, through action learning, we deemphasis note copying and emphasizes explanations, interactions and doing activities to deepen learning.

Entrenching Reading

According to a World bank Report, Learning Poverty is high among children from poorest households in Nigeria, implying that many learners complete secondary school education unable to read, write or do arithmetic’s. Indeed, many learners arrive KNOSK School struggling to read and write and to address this, we are promoting a reading culture through a mandatory reading program supported by a large library of over 3,000 books donated by Child 2 Foundation, USA.

Our Homegrown KNOSK Curriculum

To ensure we deliver our education promise, we are adopting the Nigerian Curriculum into the KNOSK Action Learning Curriculum. In place of textbooks we use learner centered textbooks and workbooks produced inhouse by KNOSK Knowledge Team.

Students Leadership/Mentorship

At the KNOSK School, to inculcate leadership and civic culture among the children, elections are conducted annually for school prefects and the school also runs a legislative arm, with different classes and gender having representatives in a general council to bring their concerns and ideas to management! Elections at KNOSK school are issue based, candidates present manifestos, participate in a debate and are voted for. So far, all our elections have been credible, free, fair and conclusive! Mentoring is also big a the KNOSK, as senior students are inculcating the culture of seeing themselves as mentors to junior students, its such an exciting culture to experience.

Examination Malpractice Free

As part of our culture to raise ethical leaders, we are eliminating every avenue that fosters examination malpractice in our school by implementing paper type and mixed class examination. What it means is that during exams, question papers per subject carry different questions and we seat students of different classes/grades in the same classroom!

Solution HACKATHONS

To ensure that learning is practical and applicable to addressing everyday life, we host a Solution Hackathon every term as our Midterm continuous assessment test. Learners work in groups to create solutions for their everyday challenges and earn points. Hackathons continues to promote the culture of collaboration, research, problem-solving, idea pitching, self-belief, leadership, inclusion and public teaching skills among learners!
